SonicMaps – Locative Audio Workshop
During this workshop, participants will be invited to build a location-aware sonic experience using the SonicMaps platform and authoring tool. We will learn how to articulate linear narratives and open-form soundscapes by organising sound on a geographical map for later exploration using a GPS-enabled device.
This form of immersive interactive media has the power to transform our perception of a place in multiple ways, either by facilitating our understanding of our physical environment or by proposing totally alternative realities and interpretations. A desktop/laptop computer running Chrome or Safari is required for this workshop.

Ignacio Pecino
As a researcher at the University of Manchester (MA, PhD) Ignacio has investigated technical and fundamental aspects of locative audio and procedural composition using game engines (“Dynamic Audio Composition via Space and Motion in Virtual and Augmented Environments”). These disciplines were explored in the context of electroacoustic music composition and they are strongly informed by issues of accessibility and perceptual organisation (multimodality). In 2012, Ignacio founded Recursive Arts (www.recursivearts.com), an independent game/app development studio with a focus on locative audio, XR experiences, virtual instruments, and procedural sound.
Ignacio is holding a zoom workshop as part of the event. if you’d like to take part, please fill in this form…
