Penis Drawing Machine
The penis drawing machine was made as part of the ‘Disobedient Objects’ module in my second year at university, where we were tasked with designing and making a disobedient or rebellious object. We were also introduced to Arduino during the module, using microcomputers to control motors and servos.
My idea was to make a mischievous graffiti drawing machine, and as crude drawings of penises are perhaps the most universally recognised form of graffiti, I decided that my machine should draw penises.
The device itself was designed on Rhino 6 and made from 3D printed and laser-cut components. It uses a motor to advance a roll of paper, with 2 servos to draw the image, and another to retract the pen between drawings.

I’m a third-year student studying Artist Designer Maker at Cardiff Metropolitan University, with an interest in art, craft and technology. Computer-Aided Design and 3D printing is an integral part of my making practice, although I also draw inspiration from traditional approaches, which when combined with technological processes, open new areas of exploration.
